Jan 4-11 WELTON, AZ WWC
Host Kurt Glassell #2535. Free parking on big BLM cleared area and clear skies are just a couple of reasons to join us again in lovely suburban (boondocks) Wellton , AZ. Morning
walks on the levee, campfire every night, annual Jeep tour to the Homeland Security Fence on the Mexico/US border in Hobbs Canyon Also, another off-road tour to bombing range, Yodaville (mock-up of Iraqi village) and Tinajas Altas. Afterward wash the dust down at Ernie’s Beach Club (not Ernie Grabstein, this is a high-class place!). Also, I am planning a tour given by the site manager of the Copper Mountain Landfill, a huge Allied Waste Corp. operation on 700 acres that they will be using for 108 years—the technology will amaze you—there is NO groundwater contamination and even the methane gases created are monitored through test wells. Good chow all week with cheap breakfasts at the VFW, cheaper biscuit & gravy or French toast for $1.35 at Porch’s Ice Cream; and Mexican food night at Geronimo’s. Also, I will again host an NFL potluck Saturday at my casita at Baker Hill Farms and a Sunday potluck. OK, we work you hard all day but we feed you well! The theme this week, if you noticed, is CHEAP—it’s Wellton, not Scottsdale , so you have to go with the flow.

Carolyn Baird #2555 says:

I would like to do a caravan in 2010 of the Lewis and Clark Trail from St. Louis, MO to Fort Clapsop, OR. I am willing to put it all together if I have some willing help. Bertie is willing to do Nebraska and I am willing to do Montana and Idaho. Darlene Gahring will do Kansas. Would you be willing to help in this endeavor and volunteer as a leader for South Dakota or North Dakota or Oregon? If we all pitch in it will be an easy trip—the SIs have done this and Donna Huffer took really good notes of places to stay.  We don’t have to reinvent the wheel so to speak. If you have any suggestions or comments please email me at carolyndbaird@yahoo.com or call me at 208-733-2058.

I am happy to report that the following WINers have volunteered to help put this summer caravan together—if you have any information to help the volunteers please give them a call. I am hopefully planning a kayak trip down the Missouri River from Fort Benton for 1 week or so and the others will plan to go to Glacier Nat’l Park meeting around Missoula to continue the trip... Carolyn Baird #2555
